Jaipur
- Built on principles of Shilpa Shastra, Jaipur is a charismatic city
known for forts and myriad colors. Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan
is a major business centre. Painted in pink color, it is one of the most
famous tourist attractions of Rajasthan. The city has been successful in
preserving its ethnicity and culture through its festivals and fairs. It
is India's first planned city and has many magnificent structures like
Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Amber Fort. The city is well connected with
rest of the country. Large number of tourists visits Jaipur to
experience the taste of royal hospitality of Rajasthan.
Maharaja Jai Singh II in close association of Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, a
Brahmin scholar laid the foundation of Jaipur City in 1727. Earlier to
Jaipur, Amber was the capital of Kachwaha dynasty. With rising
population and paucity of water, Maharaja Jai Singh II conceived the
idea of constructing a new city to accommodate the ever increasing
population. It nearly took 4 years to build major structures like
palaces and forts. The Kachwaha dynasty had strong alliances with
British government and in 1853, city was painted pink to welcome the
Prince of Wales. Even after 291 years of its foundation, the city has
not lost its shine.
Jaipur has many places of tourist interest.
Amber fort, one of the most popular forts of Jaipur is a perfect blend
of Hindu and Muslim style of architecture and is named after original
Amber fort. Jaigarh fort was the original Amber fort but it was renamed
as Jaigarh fort by Maharaja Jai Singh. This fort offers spectacular
views of Aravalli range. Nahargarh fort is yet another beautiful fort.
It overlooks beautiful Man Sagar Lake. City Palace situated in the heart
of the city is converted into a Museum, part of it still used as
residence by the royal family. Jantar Mantar is a famous observatory
built in 18th century. Hawa Mahal built in 1799 is a marvelous piece of
Rajput architecture and now houses a museum. The other places worth a
visit are Jal Mahal, Central Museum, Birla Planetarium, Laxmi Narayan
Temple, Kanak Vrindavan temple and Jain Mandir.
