Mount Abu Travel
Mount Abu - Known for beautiful Dilwara Jain
temples and natural environs, Mount Abu is a famous hill station
situated in south-western corner of Rajasthan. Being the only hill
station in Rajasthan, it a welcome respite from the scorching weather of
rest of the Rajasthan. Mount Abu has large number of splendid palaces
and beautiful Lakes. The famous Dilwara Jain temples are great examples
of architectural excellence. Set amidst lush green forests, it is abode
of exotic flora and fauna. It is believed all 330 million deities of
Hindu religion used to visit this place. The city has many places of
tourist interest and is well connected with other places of Rajasthan.
As per Hindu mythology, Sage Vashishta's celestial cow, Kamdhenu, fell
in a gorge. He requested the gods to save the cow. Lord Shiva sent the
mighty serpent Arbud for the help. The snake raised the land where the
cow was standing. This place was named Arbudanchal after the snake, now
known as Mount Abu. As per the historical information, King Dhumraja of
Parmar dynasty was the ruler of this city in 916 A.D. After the conquest
of Mount Abu by Deora-Chauhan dynasty in 1311, it serves as a summer
resort for the Rajput rulers. Later the Maharaja of Sirohi leased it to
British government to serve as headquarter of the residents of
Rajputana.
Mount Abu Tourist Attractions :
Dilwara Temples - Built between 11th and 13th century A.D.,
Dilwara Jain temples are world renowned for its fine architecture and
excellent stone carvings. It a famous pilgrimage of followers of Jain
religion and attracts lots of devotes and tourists.
Nakki Lake - Nakki Lake has a legend behind its origin. It is
said that the lake was dug by nails by a sage, Balam Rasia, to fulfill
the condition of the parents of girl whom he wished to marry. It is one
of the major tourist attractions of Mount Abu.
Gaumukh - Gaumukh temple is a famous temple believed to be built
on a location where Saint Vashistha performed a Yagna and created the
four Rajput clans. The other places must a visit are Sunset point,
Achalgarh, Guru Shikhar, Adhar Devi, Trevor's Crocodile park and Mount
Abu wildlife sanctuary.
Air - The nearest airports are Udaipur and
Allahabad. Both are well connected to the rest of the country.
Railways - The nearest railway station is located 28 Km away
from the main city. Mount Abu is well linked with major destinations of
India.
Road - The city has a well developed network or roads with
nearest highway no. 14 located just 24 Km away.
